Corruption in Namokar Mantra

How the corrupted Jain monks played with Namokar Mantra....

(This article is based on the research book `Prakrit Sahitya Ka Itihas' by Dr. Jagdish Chandra Jain, `Moulik Jain Itihas' by Acharya Hastimalji and other works by Jain scholars. Intension behind writing this article is not to hurt the sentiments of anybody, but to tell the truth. This will help the blind believers to come out of blind devotion and to think logically.)

Most of the Jains think that Namokar Mantra is `Anadhi-Nidhan' i.e. it exists from beginning and it will remain forever and that to in present form.

If it was true, then the 2200 years old inscription of emperor Kharwel, who himself was called as `Bhikku' (monk), and who called a conference of Jain monks for compiling Jain texts, would have given all the five lines of the Mahamantra in the inscription. And after two hundred years of his time, the Mathura inscription also would have given all the five lines. But both the inscriptions give only two lines:

Namo Arhantanam
Namo Savv Siddha Nam

Another inscription of the ancient period, which is carved at a cave at village Pale in Pune district of Maharashtra, gives just one line:

Namo Arhantanam

All the inscriptions have only one or two lines just because at that time the later lines were not in existence.

The first addition was a third and single line, which was added for monks:

Namo Savva Sahunam

This line was acceptable one but I think that the monks were not happy with a single line for them, so they added more lines:

Namo Ayariyanam
Namo Uvajjhayanam

Then they rearranged the last three lines by putting Namo Savv Sahunam as last line and adding Loye to it.

In Jain literature, Namokar Mantra is first found in Shatkhandagam, the Digambar Jain Agams. These agams were compiled by Acharya Pushpdant and Bhutbali. But the original Shatkhandagams are not available and we know the subjects in it only by Dhavala Tika, which is written far later. In Shwetambar literature, Namokar Mantra is found in Bhagwati Sutra. The Sutra literature also was written far later.

The oldest available Jain Agam is Acharang Sutra in Shwetambar literature and Moolachar in Digambar literature. Both the texts are most important and both of them do not give any reference to Namokar Mantra.

I think that you would have realized now that namokar mantra is not Anadhi-nidhan, eternal or beginning less, it was written at some time and it was later developed.

Further Corruptions:
The Namokar Mantra It is in Ardhamagadhi language, but the word Mantra itself is a Sanskrit one. So it is clear that there was no title (Caption) for the Mantra and it too was added in later period. Further lines ‘Eso Panch Namokkaro…’ were added at the end. To differentiate this Mantra Shwetambars started to call it as Navakar Mantra, while Digambars started to recite Eso Panch Namoyaaro instead of Eso Panch Namokkaro.

Why Inscriptions are more important?
Inscriptions are very important sources of finding the facts than literature. The archaeologists can tell in which year or time period an inscription was written. The more important thing about inscriptions is no one can change or add lines in it and if anybody does it, the archaeologists can find it. But it is not easy to tell about the exact time of writing of ancient texts. Moreover each text gets additions by later writers and critics. This is happened with Namokar Mantra also.

We should know that nobody, whether it is a Mantra or a monk that too corrupted one, can save us from our sins. We ourselves are responsible for our deeds. So forget the Mantras and monks, be loyal to your intellect, be loyal to originality. You do not need any agents to acquire true knowledge. Once you start to use your own intlect, you will learn to put truth at the highest place, instead of giving prominance to persons.

Milk Addicted Jain Monks

-Mahavir Sanglikar

Let me clear that I am (Yet) not a Vegan. But I consume milk products at minimum by avoiding direct use of milk. I will become a pure Vegan as soon as possible as I am on that way.

My sole intention of writing this article is to underline the hypocrisy of Jain monks.

Jain monks and their blind followers always claim that Jainism has thought very deeply about Ahimsa. Further they add to it that no other religion has considered this issue so deeply. Their both statements are totally false when we think about the milk products they are consuming.

I am afraid why Jain monks think that milk is a vegetarian product. If milk is a vegetarian product, they should show us the trees where milk grows. The true reason is that Jain monks have become addicted to milk, so they do not want to think on it.

Much is written about milk by Vegans. You can read a detailed article about Himsa (Violence) in consuming milk at: (Read) Vegans have thought about it very deeply and they are more non-violent than the milk addicted Jain monks.

One of my friend met celebrated and great Jain monk and told him that how milk is a non-vegetarian food. The monk became angry (!) and told my friend that no Jain aagam (text) says that monks should not take milk. So, the Jain monks will avoid bad things only if the aagams say.

I have realized that consuming milk is not only violence but also a theft. The milk is for the new-borns of the animals, not for us. We have no right of taking the food which is not for us. If a Shravak takes milk products, it is a different thing, but if the monks take them, it is a big sin. Sin of theft and sin of violence. Consuming milk is more sinful that consuming liquor, as there is no theft in taking liquor.

More and more Shravaks are becoming Vegans, but no monk is ready to stop consuming milk products. This also proves that Shravaks think well than the monks.

Now I have a question about Jain aagams. How the aagams have not banned the monks from taking milk products? Doesn’t it prove that aagams are not perfect? Western Vegans know nothing about Jainism, and they have thought deeper than Jains. Jains in West are becoming Vegans because of Western Vegans and not because of Jain aagams and Jain monks. Just think about it!

I am not against any sect

-Mahavir Sanglikar
Recently I got an email alleging that I am against a specific sect of Jains and targeting it through my articles.

I had received another mail from a person belonging to opposite sect of the abovementioned. He too thinks that I am against his sect, and targeting it.

Both the mails prove that orthodox people of every Jain sect think that I am against them. They think in such a way because they are not able to give answers to the questions I arouse, and cannot digest the facts, which I have been discussing in my articles.

I was born into the traditional Beespanthi sub sect of Digambars, but let me clear that I do not belong to it anymore, or in other words, I belong to every sect and sub sect of Jains. For me, any practicable tradition in any sect that is good and not against humanity is acceptable. I am not against any sect, but against one way thinking, impracticable traditions, stupid rituals, wrong beliefs and wrong interpretations of the Jain way of life. When I write about these things in my articles, some people think that I am writing against their sect. I suggest them to read my articles carefully and they will find that I have written against the wrong practices both in Digambars and Shwetambars.

For me, orthodox Digambars and Orthodox Shwetambars are the worst enemies of Jains and Jainism. These people have made Jainism a Private Limited Company.

A Dalit caste of Maharashtra is willing to adopt Jainism. When their leaders came to me for discussions, I arranged their meeting with the great Shwetambar monk Upadhyay Maniprabhsagarji and Sthanakwasi monk Upadhyay Pravinrishiji. We talked with these monks and got a positive response. I firmly avoided introducing the Dalit leaders to any Digambar monks, as I knew their inhuman thinking about Dalits. If I were a person bearing sectarian views, I would have never introduced the Dalit leaders to Shwetambar and Sthanakwasi monks. Instead, I would have opposed Dalit conversions to Jainism.

Further I would like to say that my circle of friends has persons belonging to every sect of Jains. Unlike others, I never prefer friends from the Sect, Caste and linguistic group in which I was born. The only girl to whom I loved very much and to whom I still remember, was not from my ex-sect, caste or linguistic group. Some of my close relatives and most of my best friends belong to other sects. If you check the list of my Jain friends on Orkut and Facebook, you will find that I am not like the frogs for whom their small puddle is the universe. Such frogs have no right to allege that I am against the universe where they live. I never think that such frogs will grow up unless they come out of their small universe.

So if anybody thinks that I am targeting his sect, it is just because of his wrong way of thinking. I am not willingly hurting anybody and my sole purpose is to fight against orthodoxy. Criticizing is the best key to create an environment against wrong things. If many people get nervous by it, I cannot help them.

Animal Rights V/s Human Rights

-Mahavir Sanglikar

In India, millions of Dalits are being persecuted by so called upper class Hindus. They are killing thousands of Dalits just because they are Dalits.

On the other hand, millions of daughter- in- laws in India are being persecuted and thousands of them are being forced to commit suicide for dowry.

Every day, there are communal riots in one or another town in India. Innocent people are becoming victims of such riots.

Terrorists are killing innocent people in mass every day.

We read daily newspapers and watch T.V. news everyday full of such incidents. But none of us speak a single word of such persecutions and killings of human beings. On the other hand some people always speak about killings of animals (especially cows*), small insects and invisible living beings even if they are harmful to us. They even speak about the life in green vegetables and underground vegetables and do not eat such vegetables because we do not want to kill them. But they have nothing to do with killings of human beings. Isn't it foolish?

They do not know the true meaning of Ahimsa, so they do not have any place for humanity in their mind.

Talking on killings of human being can be harmful for them so the best way is to run away from working for human rights (what is it?) That's why they talk only on animal rights (we know it very well)

Unlike Hinduism, there no special status for cows in Jainism. Then why we speak so much about saving cows?

What are your comments?

More About Butcher Land Jains

-Mahavir Sanglikar

My article Jains of Butcher Land was recently published on my blog and it was read by thousands of Jains and others world over. I got about one hundred comments on the article, directly as comments on the blog, or by personnel emails. Some readers made phone calls regarding this article.

Many readers of the article tried to find this land on Google Maps, but failed to find it.
So, some of them declared this as a fake story, while others directly asked to me about the exact location of the land.

There is no land called Butcher Land in Indian Ocean, which is full of Jains. The land in the story is imaginary one. The story is based on the actual things happening in Jain community of India and elsewhere.

I am sad to say that most of the readers were not able to understand the true meaning of the story based on facts. They were unable to recognize the literary value of this black humor.

Well, all the business going on the imaginary land is actually happening in India here and there. For instance, Asia’s biggest slaughter house belongs to a Jain, and according to a report most of the biggest slaughterhouses in India are owned by Jains. So Jains do not need a separate land to do such business, they can do it easily in India.

But I was surprised to know that most of readers were against meat import-export business of Butcher Land Jains, and not against their involvement in Gutkha manufacturing and its distribution, Gambling and lottery, money lending, Hawala etc. The readers have nothing to do if Jains are killing their girl children before they take births.

Some of the statements in the story throw light on stupid tendency of Indian Jains. No one has understood this. Late me give some examples:

There is no penalty for Financial criminals, as such types of crimes are legal and cannot be called as crimes.(This statement is based on the fact that many Jains are involved in financial crimes and most of the common Jains show love for Harshad Mehta, Ketan Parekh, Bharat Shah etc.)

For Butcher Land Jains Sports, Arts, Science, Music and such things are useless. The Land does not keep any armed forces, and is fully dependent on the enemy’s mercy. (Fact: Making money is the sole purpose of life for many Jains, nothing to do with humanities In the name of so called Ahimsa, Jains of a specific region in India avoid to join Armed Forces.)

The Jains of Butcher Land think that 75% of the world trade generates from their country. (Fact: Many Jains in India think that 75% of Indian economy is in their hands. Only brainless and egoistic people can believe in such statements)

Many Jain guys have to marry girls from African countries and have to pay a big dowry to the fathers of the girls. In last few decades, the body color of Butcher Land Jains is changed! (Tina Jain looks like a beautiful black girl of Nigeria or Uganda!) (Fact: Many Jain guys in India have to marry with tribal and other non-Jain girls by paying huge money to the agents, just because the male-female ratio is disturbed in some Jain castes.)

The Male-Female ratio is worst, and there are two males per one female (Fact: It is happening in Jain community in India)

The Jain temples of this Land are made from coins, not from bricks! The idols of Jain Gods are decorated with Silver and Golden coins, and also with currency notes various countries, but especially with Euros and U.S. Dollars. (Fact: Jains of a sect decorate the idols of the Teerthankars. What an insult of Jainism!)

If a person is found eating potatoes, Garlic or onions, he is punished. Government of Butcher Land has banned killing of Cockroaches, Bed Bugs and Mosquitoes. (Fact: Isn’t it just a stupidity? But what can we expect when the religion becomes Opium?)

One reader has appealed that Mahavir Sanglikar should be expelled from Jain community for writing such articles. Those who think that the reader is right, may note that there is a technical problem. A Jain caste or Jain sect can expel its members from their small world, but they have no right to expel anybody who does not belong to their world i.e. sect and caste. And they should know that I do not belong to any caste or sect of Jain community, as I am just a Jain.

By the way, why they are not expelling the Gutakha kings from Jain community?

I am thankful to those matured and learned readers, who got the true meaning of my article and supported my views. Unfortunately they are very few in number. But I hope that Jains will awake before they get totally vanished from the world.

When the dull students do not understand lessons in the textbooks, they have to take help of Guides. This article is a guide for those who have not understood the meaning of the original article.
